My name is Dereck Gilbert. I’m a long-term Linux user and currently an application development major in college. I’m also a hobbyist when it comes to web development and an aspiring StarCraft player.
I started playing StarCraft in 2002, but it was never anything serious. In 2006, I found TeamLiquid and the rest went from there. I started following the pro-scene like an addict. My first HUGE commitment came in 2008, when I turned 18. I had found StarCraft2.com and had instantly known it would change the gaming scene forever, just as it’s predecessor had done. Playing Zerg in Brood War, I made the decision to get my race’s logo placed permanently on my arm in the form of a tattoo. Since then, I have played only Zerg in 1v1 matches in StarCraft 2 beginning in the Wings of Liberty Beta. At the time, I had reached Gold League (when it was the second highest league). Currently, I’m ranked in (low) Master League on NA and Gold League on KR.I’m constantly working to improve my game and even now, trying to develop for the community. I’m working on a social networking site for StarCraft players, an Android ROM aimed to monitor your progress, and a few other small gems. Mind you, most of my “work” is using what people have already made, refining it/fixing it, and adapting it to be applicable for new things. For example, my widget on the side actually started as a tool someone on TeamLiquid posted for Season 2 of the ladder and was broken for the current season. I had to almost entirely recode it, but the idea and concepts of the original are still there.
